The Low Spark of Four-Wheeled Toys... 120-130 1967

Hello All:

1967 Volvo 122S Wagon. I have now killed my second battery in three years. I would like to do a check of the entire electrical system to see what is going on. Some of you will find this frustrating, and here is why:

Religious Note: I have a generator. I know that some people make the alternator conversion and it changes their life. I am not interested. I have read that plenty of people have a generator that works well and as far as I can tell mine does too. I put in new brushes last year and at 2,000RPM or so it runs the voltage reading at the battery up 4 or more volts.

So, with that disclaimer, I would like to systematically check the entire electical system including battery (I have a brand new one), generator, voltage regulator, etc. I have a great multi-meter that enables me to do pretty much any test you can imagine, so let it rip.

Wendy and I have noticed that on occasions when everything is on - lights, heater and blower, wipers, turn signals - that getting on the gas makes the 'AMP' light start to glow. This seems counter-intuitive since running the generator faster should provide more voltage. Any insights would be appreciated.

Also, I remember a great webpage years ago that talked about how to rebuild the fuse block. I thought it was on SWEM but maybe I am wrong. I cannot seem to find it now. If anyone has that article or a link that still works that would be great.
