Code 232 (1990 SW - ) 200

My 1990 240 SW (LH 3.1) has been suffering from code 232 since I learned how to read the codes about 9 months ago. In this period I have replaced Cat (which was empty by the way) ,new fuel pressure regulator (faint smell of fuel ). I have brand new generic o2 sensor which I installed and then removed from car because it gave higher HC at the emissions test 6 months ago.

In the summers there was distinctive smell of fuel at startup which is absent these days . Code does not return immediately but after 2-3 days . Once the code is erased, car accelerates better but idles little lumpy ( I feel car shaking at idle.). Once I remove the code the car idles at high rpms for 20-30seconds as soon as it is started (I think this is expected in cold ). If the code is present the rpms at startup do not go high (it idles just below 1000)

Does this behavior gives some clue ......

I think that it was idling too rich in summers and too lean in winters . Am I right in thinking so .

Overall car runs good enouogh, maybe because It is manual and I have habit of remaining in the lower gear a little more than needed.

Regards
Gopesh
