1992 245 Fuel Pump Issues Problems Fuses, etc! 200

Hi Guys,

I'm about to get this thing I hope. Looks like everything with the mass airflow and O2 sensor are fixed. Now I keep blowing fuse #4, fuel pump. The relay is new and works perfectly. I did a test by putting a 16A fuse in instead of the 8A in #4... started the car and it blew fuse #6, the other fuel pump fuse.

Are there two separate fuel pump relays? I took the cover off the new one and there's two separate relays in the one housing. When the key is engaged the lower relay turns on for a few seconds then turns off, I hear the pump (guess it's priming it). When the car is started both relays turn on. While the car is running, if I open the top relay, the car dies instantly. If I open the bottom relay, the car misses then dies after about 10 seconds.

What's going on here? Thanks for all your great help.

Jim
