I share the site with another guy that also does some bits and pieces...

Getting your wheels back to the stock position will do nothing to upset handling or bearing wear. The advantage of doing this is you're adding wheel width and thus tire width which should give you better roadholding capabilities. Add some good shocks, springs and swaybars and you can have a car that handles exceptionally well...for a car that 40+ years old...
