My parents have a 16v 745, and I'm looking for tires for their anniversary...
Conditions:
They live in western NY, a.k.a. lake effect snow and ice for 5-6 months each year.
My dad's a bit heavy on the brake and accelerator, and likes to pass.
He often has to pull off the road into 3-8" of snow for work, and it's not practical or safe to get out and shovel every time.
They put about 40K miles on a year.
They have the alloy wheels (I believe 15" rims).
I don't know if the 16v or the fact that it's a wagon should influence anything, but I mention just it in case it does.
I know it turns within a very tight radius, and that is often taken advantage of, but it's a work/daily driver, and I'm looking for reliability and longevity versus sporty handling.
Also, while I don't want the cheapest tires, I can't afford the top of the line, either...
I'm also uncertain if I should be looking for snow tires all the way around, or on the drive axle with a good all season on the other.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
