89 240 simply would not crank. Accessories and lights work. Turn th ignition key and nothing other than idiot lights. No sounds, no cranking. Put the battery on a charger and put the charger to start-nothing. Tinkered with the park/neutral switch, nothing. Tried in neutral, nothing.
This morning I was playing with the park/neutral safety switch and got the car to start.
Later in the day, after checking rear tail light bulbs and wiring for what I thought was another problem, I tried to start the car and it wouldn't crank again. I played some more with the neutral safety switch and though it still wouldn't start, I noticed odd behavior with the speedometer and mileage counter. The speedometer would jump up and climb gradually as though I was accelerating and the mileage counter(smaller unit-tenths?) indicated travel-that is, it went from .8 to .9 and would turn over to 0.
I put the battery charger back on the car and noticed there was no longer a full charge.
I put the charger to the "Start" position and eventually was able to start the car-once.
Is it possible that all this is simply the result of a bad battery?
Also, the rear passenger side lamps have a wiring problem. When I use the right turn signal, all the lights(running and turn) blink back and forth. In addition, the main brake lights don't work, even though the third in cabin brake light does indeed work.
Anyone with any ideas is most welcome. Thank you all in advance.
