960 window assembly 900 1992

The window assembly part which connects to the motor puller, enabling the window to move up and down broke off...is there anyway to fix it? it seems as though volvo designed it to be incredibly difficult to repair- with all the rivets that hold it in place. I can't exactly just go get a new door b/c it's on the driver's side...I was thinking about tying the two pieces together with rope, or is it possible to drill holes through the pieces to put a screw to hold them together...they appear to be stainless steel tho....any recommendations?
