89' 740 Turbo engine stalls briefly while driving and then starts back and runs normal. 700

My '89 740 Turbo (122,000) will stall for a brief second without notice. This might happen two or three times within 100 miles and then go only just a few miles and happen several times. The engine will stop and the tackometer will drop to zero... I am at a lost for what is causing this problem and so is my very experienced mechanic.

Many things have been replaced; Plugs, wires, coil, resistor, fuel pump relay, ignition computer, AMM and I am sure other items. (Wires to the distributor are good)

Nothing has been checked in the fuel tank, but the fuel filter has been changed.

In talking with the mechanic, he has mentioned that he does continue to have power to the distributor.

Any help with this problem would sure be appreciated.
