I spent a miserable day replacing a fuel pump in my wagon with 232,000 miles.
The fuel pump works, but the gauge doesn't, nor do the rear wipers and rear wiper washer. They are on a fuse with the radio and cigarette lighter, which do work. When I pushed the rear washer button, the fuse blew.
I'm assuming this is a grounding problem. When I was wrestling the pump assembly out of the fuel tank, I pulled on the wiring, causing a break in the insulation of the brown wire. I'm not good at tracing electricity. I'm suspecting that I may have pulled the brown loose from within the closed fitting on the "head" that screws onto the gas tank. Can I break into this without doing even more damage? and how would I close it up again? Or should I look elsewhere for the problem. I didn't have any problems with these devices until the fateful replacement of the fuel pump. Also, the Volvo dealer sold me a new length of rubber tubing, but it was too short and I used the existing one, but it looked like it would interfere with the floating of the pump. After one filling, the gauge read full, but then stopped at about 3/4 full where it remains even when I'm almost running on fumes, and it no longer reads full even when I've filled the tank.
