DS outside rearview mirror toggle question 200 1986

The other day, when my long-legged 6'3" son was getting into my brick to install my Christmas stereo, his knee hit the rubber covered toggle knob that positions the DS mirror and bent it down. My question is, can I just position the mirror in its most upper looking position and continue to bend the toggle knob up until it's in the proper position or do I need to remove it and straighten it that way?

Thanks in advance and have a great New Years.
