my 90 volvo 240 seems to eat lots of gas. i think about 16mpg. usealy i travel about 70mi an hour. the transmision has dark red fluid in it and shifts good, don't smell burned. needs motor mounts. recently i have fixed the fuel sender caz it was leaking from the top! i had to hotwire the intank pump to run all the time due to the fact that the car wouldn't start in cold weather and it would shake and miss like madd when i did get it to start. as far as i could tell, it was useing the external pump to run until i hotwired the intank pump to run all the time with the key on. when i did that the engine rpm went up a little and i had more power. i did this through the fusebox. i know the pump works now, i don't smell ne gas fumes. have a shimmy shake in the steering wheel, needs shocks up front coilsprings rear and alinmant up front. still drives streight and the outside of the tires up front wear. i have no play in the wheel. can that cause poor gas milage? i know that the oil needs changeing and the valves need adjustmant, they don't tick too bad. tires are @ proper airpresure and the engine runs fine. airfilter is clean, air fram. i thought about cleaning the throtle body but i don't want to deal with breaking the cable or messing up the switch. also it seems to run just fine and idles nicely, has a litle miss, not terrible. is their anything else i could look @?
