My Strombergs which were running very rich, began to leak at the bowl gasket. I've messed with them long enough. I've had a used weber DGAV and a TMW manifold moth-balled for the past 10 years and it's time to make the change. I've got a B-20 exhaust manifold that fits, but its got a locating pin that doesn't like my B-18 head. I'm a farm boy that can cut it off and make it work, but what am I in for here ?
The B-18 head does have leaky valve guides and compression is 150 psi across all 4 cylinders. I haven't run the #'s to see which model b-18 it is, but I'm guessing from it's strength of power and oil consumption it's a older worn B-18 B. I also have several old heads in storage, 3-b18s and 2-b20 FI heads but their condition is unknown.
I know without asking that I should go ahead and rebuild the head with hardened exhaust seats and the proper gasket for unleaded fuel, but how far do I go with the bottom end? As I ask this I realize that I really should check the Bores while I'm there, .... and that will answer my Questions..... right ?
My big questions are : The locating Pin removal repercusions and Weber conversion problems?
