rom sensor 200 1990

Just bought a new RPM sensor for my 90 240 wagon with 230K. I am having no problems but like to perform PM prior to breakdown. I have read the problems with replacement and the possibility of breaking the plastic housing when removing the old one. However, after removing the 10mm bolt that holds it in place I am unsure as to what directional force to apply inorder to remove it. Do I pull up, slide it backward or forward or wriggle it? i will spray with PB blaster prior to attempting removal. Any directions on the removal force would be helpful.

thanks JMSH
