So i finally installed the VR3 VRVD630 unit in my '92 244
http://www.roadmasterusa.com/vr3_auto.html
Guess I should share with the rest of the board how this task went. (Bentley was indespensible on the wiring diagrams)
< Amplifier >
Removed side kick panels on eiter side of the console.
Removed fascia of said console. Torx (#27) screws located at the lower end and two more at the under side of the coin tray.
Carefully pull away this assembly and locate the metal skeleton it was attached to. (good time to check for vacuum leaks and replace bulbs here)
There are FOUR short screws that hold the plate almost directly behind the ones you previously removed.
Remove 7 pin Round cord and the speaker wiring master connector from the Amplifier (Flat-head screw driver for BOTH clips on either end)
Loosen the 10mm nuts binding the Amplifier to the back of the storage box at the lower end. Amplifier should just slide out.
Be sure to leave the speaker master connector dangling away from the console.
Replace everything sans the LEFT kick panel and discard Amplifier.
Althoungh it took a bit of gazing at the wiring diagram but i was able to discern the polarity of the speakers through this method.
Each Speaker uses two different size spade connectors with respective wire colors.
The larger spade is connected to the Gray Yellow and was found to be Positive.
Following that observation i applied that all speaker wiring was coded that the primary color was for that particular speaker AND the striped one was the Positive side.
When it came to finding the hot leads in the speaker master connecter left hanging it was strange that there were FOUR wires which were hot all the time. It was ALSO noticed that the wiring from the speaker to said master connector DOES NOT match.
Actually mounting the unit was not without using the Dremel.
I used the plastic braid covering along with some new black conduit.
So now i can load 1G from my SD card, 1G from ,u USB Flash Drive, and DVD-ROM from the disc drive. Not bad for $160.
Oh well, hope this helps some with what they got for Xmas!

Butt Connectors BAD - Solder and Heat Shrink GOOD!
