Accelerator stuck at full throttle 200 1993

Hi - 1993 245 NA manual.

Driving on the highway at 65 with cruise control on. Go up a hill, car accelerates in an attempt to keep speed. Crest hill, car proceeds to accelerate up to about 80 mph before I am sufficiently distracted from my radio program to notice.

I think the accelerator went to the floor in the cruise control's attempt to keep speed up the hill and then got stuck at the floor.

I put the car out of gear, and the engine redlined under no load. Tapped brakes to slow down, and then stomped on accelerator, then hooked foot under accelerator to lift it off the floor. Car eventually went back to normal idle.

It was really cold this morning, about 1 deg F.

Any thoughts on what caused it? It was a bit exciting.

Thnaks in advance for any suggestions as to where to look.
