I installed Moog Cargo Coils (CC215) on my '89 244 since the old springs felt very weak to me and did not match the front of the car in terms of stiffness at all. It was very spongy in the back end. They went in pretty easy but on the passenger side I had to wrangle them out past the new exhaust system I installed a few months ago. I should have done these first thing. They are excellent. A much better balance front to back and make the car ride the way a modern car should (a little on the stiff side for good handling and control). The rear bushings could use replacement on this old car with unknown mileage (I suspect over 200k on her) but the original shocks were still good! I know they are original because they are covered in the same original undercoating as the rest of the car. I ordered them from O'reilly Auto Parts for ~$77 and they listed them on their website as variable rate but not as overload coils. When I received them, they said cargo coils on the box, which to me means "overload" or "heavy duty" so I was a little worried that they would be too stiff which isn't what I was after. Not to worry, they are just right even with nothing in the back of the car and perfect with passengers as well. No more mushy rear end. BTW, they didn't change the ride height of the rear by more than 3/8" or so.
