Rear hatch lock assembly spring 700 1991

Hi,

The rear hatch on my 91 740 wgn won't unlock.
The locking mechanism bolted to the tailgate is free & operates when worked by hand.
The locking motor rod pulls but doesn't return to the start position when trying to unlock the doors.
The rear lock cylinder is seized (years of salt, I got it that way).
I'm guessing that the spring on the lock cyl packed it in. This stops the locking motor rod from returning. One of the studs for the handle is springing so I'll have to drill it out to remove the handle assembly.

Does the spring on the lock cyl. return the locking motor rod to the start position or is there a spring built into the locking motor?
