Pre pump failure 200

Pre-pump failure
The strength of this board is often performing a search. Just wanted to post a little success story.
My younger brother has an 88 244. He has been having an intermittent miss bad enough to cause him to have to shut it down and wait sometimes.

I drove it this past weekend when he was having trouble. The car had really low power and was cutting in and out. Spark was good, so we looked at fuel. He had replaced the pre pump with a used one from a (his) wreck but did not put the filter sock on it. Turns out the tank was nasty and full of crap. We pulled the pre pump and put 12 volts on it till it finally started to run. Will replace with a new on the weekend. He changed to the old car tank which was much cleaner.

Lesson learned:
1. Parts swapping only works with known good or new parts
2. A pre pump can cause low power and cutting in and out
3. The pre pump sock is there for a reason
4. Always check for junk in the tank when pulling the pump.
5. After replacing the pump the main pump was much quieter.

Hope this post helps someone someday.
