Help with non-start when engine is hot 700 1990


I'm with Bill's post below.

The starter circuit is about as simple as a light bulb. Mechanics that can't fix this probably shouldn't be mechanics.

I believe it's a blue green wire that goes to the solenoid from the inhibitor switch. If there's no voltage there when someone turns the key to start, the starter won't go... probably because the inhibitor switch is toast. It can be intermittent, and the switch is a not uncommon problem here.

Cure is to replace the inhibitor switch, or bypass it altogether (which is how manual transmission 740's are wired from the factory). FYI, If you bypass it, the car will start in gears other than park or neutral.
