First brake job problem - too thick pads? 200

Replacing front pads and rotors on my 1993 240.
Bought Brembo rotors and PBR Deluxe pads from FCP Groton.
This is my first time working on the brakes. From what I read here, I expected war with stuck rotors. Doing the right side first, everything came off perfectly - didn't even have to bang the rotor!

Here's the problem: I can't get the new pads in! Seems ridiculous. I opened the brake fluid reservoir under the hood and used the old pads and a channel lock pliers to squeeze back the caliper pistons. That's how I got the old pads out. But the new pads are so much thicker. I managed to get one in by tapping gently on the top (hope I didn't hurt the pistons) but it rubs the rotor when I turn it by hand. The other one I can't even get in at all.

Is there something I'm missing? Do I just have to press back the pistons more? If so, how else could I do it?

Thanks for you help.

Harry
