'88 245 Starter Replacement (Crazy Starter Problem) 200 1988

Hello Oscar,

I belive that terminal is an unused ballast resistor. So not part of the puzzle. Now all of the power going dead is strange. But that is not your problem most likely, that is a rabbit you do not want to waste time chasing.

Keep it simple. Do you have Good Clean connections from the battery to the Starter and to Ground. No green, No Black, just nice solid clean connections?

Do you have a solid connection from the Pos Term to the power distribution block on the firewall next to the silver relay for the headlights? Remove the snap on cover and check and make sure that the terminal is not all black or corroded. The red wire that goes to the battery connects to the front side connector and if the wire is burned and stiff or almost eaten off get a new wire and replace it with a new yellow terminal spade lug crimped to good clean wire. Check all the other terminals on that block also and shine or replace as needed.

Pull off the fuse holder panel by the drivers foot and check all of your fuses for good clean contacts and no black tarnished fuses.

Try and start the car after you check, clean, or replace all that. If you hear a click but still no start, most likely it is the starter.

You hear a click you could try the starter stick test on the solenoid, take a 12 inch wood rod and start giving the top of the starter a few good thumps. Have someone get in the car and start trying to start it while you do that also. If it suddenly catches and starts up, you need a new starter.

Regards,

Paul
