Who Built It 120-130

Hi, my $0.02 worth; I remember seeing the last versions of the Amazon in Europe during the early 80s. The classic car craze hadn't really hit full stride, so "new and flashy" was more important than "old and funky".

I'm assuming that the Amazon series was phased out in the North American market to coincide with the introduction of the 140 series (yes, I know there were 1967 and '68 140s). Possibly there were DOT considerations, and new rules which contributed to 1968 being the last U.S.A. year?. My '68 220 has the ugly side marker lights, and I think that's the only year I've seen those. Maybe they didn't want to offer too many choices, I know which one I would have bought! Volvo N. America seemed to be offering all kinds of bells and whistles on their last available Amazons to move them off the lots. I refer to dash knee pads, overdrives, roof racks, servo brakes, etc. Seen a lot more of these on later 120s than on earlier ones.

Back to the later ones; does yours have the ignition switch on the column, with a cut away section in the plastic steering cowl? Also, I seem to remember that the last cars deleted the aluminum trim strip on the hood. Were all the last Amazons exclusively 2 door models? Why or what did Volvo think they were doing by making inner door handles out of black plastic?
In WW2, in the U.S. they blacked out all the chrome, but Sweden last fought a war in, like 1650 or something?
