EGR Valve Cleaning 900 1991

Hi all,
1991 940SE. Removed the EGR valve and would some one shed more light how and what to clean in the valve. The pipe to the intake is full of carbon. I will clean that, but I could not get enough info about the valve that what parts need to be cleaned and how it works. Please guide me.
