'83 windshield defrost

Hello,

I have two questions/issues:

I am not getting any defrost air to my windshield. The blower motor works fine, but nothing out the top dash vents when I hit the defrost button.

A while ago I had to pull the whole dash to replace the windshield wiper assembly and perhaps I "pulled" out a wire from the back of the defrost button?

So I have pulled the glove box and the radio-mounted on top and propped open the two "valves" that direct air out those top vents. Will this do?
