wrong gear? 700 1987

Today I'm changing the seals on the front of my b230. When I removed the cam gear and the intermediate gear I noticed the intermediate gear had a "K" molded into the back. I once replaced the seals on my b23 in my 245 and the CAM gear had a "K".
When you put the gears next to each other they seem identical(same gear tooth height, length, pin at the same place in relation to the mark) with these exceptions:
The one that was on the camshaft is smoother cast and lighter with several holes.
The one that was on the int. shaft is heavier cast and has two holes, 2 "K"s and two "12"s cast into the back.
The mating surface on the one that was on the camshaft is not as high, and has a notched washer to compensate.

My questions: I'm pretty sure the P.O. switched the gears when he put the copious amounts of RTV I FOUND ON THE CAMSHAFT SEAL! Did he?
Also, is this the right cam gear for my 87 B230 NA engine?
