How to Disable ShiftLock?? 200 1993

I keep getting the shiftlock stuck every now and then, but by spinning the #12 fuse, it works again. I need to know(I'm sure I'm not the only one...sounds like an old song by the Beatles) how to permanently disable the shiftlock. All my other 3 volvos do not have this stupid feature and I have not run into the back of the garage like the old lady in the BMW that started this mess back in the 90's.
Is there anyone who has done this? I've even gotten an older shifter from an earlier 240 and was contemplating replacing the whole shebang, but I needed the shifter for a 740.
