VOLVO 740 GLE A/C EVAPORATOR 700 1988

I have removed the evaporator from my 1988 740 GLE Station Wagon - very difficult job made possible only with the help from brickboard posts. Have purchased three different evaporators - first one ($100) was much smaller unit - turned out it was made in China!, second purchased from NAPA ($150) -aftermarket supposedly to OEM spec but tube mounted 3/4 inch different so would not fit in the molded plastic jacket that holds it into place, and third unit purchased from local garage ($300) that guaranteed exact OEM specs. I brought molded plastic in when I picked it up to be sure it would fit. It did not fit - in fact IT WAS THE EXACT UNIT I had purchased from NAPA because I had put a piece of tape with my initials and the date of purchase on it which was still there when the garage owner opened up the box!!!!

Can anyone suggest where I can purchase the EXACT unit or suggest any FIX for the original unit? (Evaporator identified as the A/C problem by mechanic who said it would cost $150 for the new unit and $650 to install it - I decided to do the labor myself - big mistake!!!) Don Hartwig
