Odd Starter Question 700

I cleaned up both faces but but there was nothing but a little oil there.
The reson it doesnt fit flush the normal way is that the starter body touches the engine. Must be a slight aftermarket miscalculation.

Will rotating it effect the start?
In other words, am I risking damage or will it be OK?
