All Dash lights are dimly lit - killed battery 200

Hey guys

I have a 1990 240DL. Yesterday while my wife was in the car all the dash lights came on very dimly and fade in and out as the engine runs. She was running the busted blower motor at the time which I have yet to replace - it still works when you turn it up to 4 but starts shrieking - I run it sparingly, she did not, not sure if this had something to do with it.

Anyway, this moring the car started weakly, still had dash lights on dimly. Next time I tried to start it the battery was dead. I tried charging the battery, but it did not hold a charge, so I replaced it with a new one. The car started with that, but the lights on the dash are still on dimly when it runs.

Any ideas?
