Odd Starter Question 700

I am not sure I understand you.
I have bolted mine on both rotated directions.
there doesnt seem to be a cutout or a peg/key or anything.
Should there be?

Right now the wired section is facing up and closest to the engine.
It is difficult to wire but I got it.

It was rotated the other way, so that the wired section was accessible from under the car.

Anyone know which way it should be?

Should I put it back?
Should I use some washers to shim it out being that it wont fit flush that way?
