Intermittent no start / run and die 900

Got my -93 960 on the road after parked for 4 months due to broken timing belt.
Pneumonina and new job slowed down the repair of and assmebly of the head (different story), but it is now running strong...well not all the time.

When first started it it ran for a few minutes and then just died. It started up again fine. Drove it for about 20 miles with no problems and then it started to miss and then sputter. Just made it to my friends house and after a couple of hours tried to start for trip home - no start.

Towed it and once home tried to start and it did but ran poorly, back fired and popped off the inlet manifold by the rubbers....fixed that and the fuel line from regulator to fuelrigg / injector assy that had been severed by the back fire...
Also replaced the fuel filter, thinking there may be bad fuel from 4 months of sitting.

Started up and ran fine, but shut down from idle after a few minutes...
Poored in Stabil in the fuel tank and re started and let idle for about 10-15 minutes with no problems.

I will drive it around this week end but still have a bit of lack of trust...

Read somwhere that the ignition trigger (by the cam shaft sensor in the back) can sometimes give weird intermittent start / run problems like this...
don't know if that part is common to fail or not...

Anyone ever had these symptoms????
