warning to not turn shafts with belt off 900 1993

In the FAQ for "Changing Timing Belt: Procedures for B23/B230 Series Engines", Step 10 warns that with the timing belt off:

"Check that engine is correctly lined up: IMPORTANT! Do not turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing belt removed."

I'm assuming this warning is only there in order to keep the job simple - so you can just pop the new belt on knowing everything is lined up - right?

With the belt off, I'm assuming that being a non-intererence engine, you can rotate shafts as required, to clean bearing contact surfaces, as long as you put them back in position when the belt is installed.
