New Bilstein Touring Shocks - Make Clunking Sound 900 1993

Hi,

My mechanic installed new Bilstein Touring Struts & Shocks on my 1993 940. After a couple of weeks, gradually, a clunking sound appeared in the rear of the car. Now it's very loud. It's mosly noticable at lower speeds 30MPH and below. It most noticable when driving over roads that are slighty rough, have imperfections, or like a concrete road that has those lines that go across filled with tar, it will clunk each time it hits one. Does not require pot holes to clunk. But most any road will cause the clunking to occur. Two mechanics looked at the problem but couldn't find anything. They tightened all the suspension down but that didn't help. The exhaust pipes looked tight. One of them took out the rear shocks and they looked find on the bench. I think he drove the car without the shocks and there was no clunking noise. So, it seems there could be two possible issues, one is that the clunking sound is coming from the new shocks, or since the shocks are stiffer than the old stock shocks, that maybe they are causing something else in the rear of the car to clunk. My mechanic first though maybe there was chassis clatter?

Anyone else run into this issue?

Thank you,

Michael
