I think the idea is that the hydrogen is supposed to allow more complete combustion of the gasoline air mixture, rather than supplanting the need for gasoline to any degree, and that only a very small amount is needed. Ten amps of current draw was the figure I was seeing bandied around for one of the hydrogen converters.

If you got a 20-40% increase in gas mileage you would come out ahead.
