"Service' light glowing dimly 700

When it rains, it pours . . .

The "service" light on my 1991 745t seems to be glowing dimly after it should shut off. I know it is an oil change reminder, and I have never reset it, so it does shine brightly for a few minutes after starting the car. But just got a call from my wife saying that it is now glowing very dimly after the initial bright period. I'll look at it when it gets home (light leakage from instrument panel lights, etc.), but in the meanwhile, is this a foreboding indication of some catastrophie soon to occur, or just another pleasant quirk of my car?

Would it help if I actually reset the thing?
