Fixing the antenna mast 700 1987

Hi all,

I'm getting ready to buy a $16 antenna mast for my 740, but I'm confused by one of the tips I got a while ago on replacing it - making sure to remove a small metal piece from the bottom of the old antenna mast, that needs to be put on the replacement.

I don't have this piece - I don't have the mast, just a hole and the motor assembly. Will a FCP Groton replacement have this piece, or will I have to fabricate one?

I have a small metal shop where I can fabricate small metal parts, so I might be able to make a new one. Would someone be willing to post a photo of what this looks like, so that I can make a new one if I need to?

Ummm, I also have the option of just plugging the hole. I don't really use the radio (the previous owner put in a nice 35w CD player), so I could just plug the hole to keep the water out. Suggestions? I guess I'm being neurotic by wanting to fix a part I'll never use?

Thanks!

Ari
