240 cigarette lighter not working 200 1992

anyone ever experience a non-functional cigarette lighter on the late model 240? mine used to work and that was great when I smoked, but I tried using it recently for my new cellphone charger and it neither charged the phone nor heated the lighting device. When i push in the lighter it goes in then immediately springs back out, not sticking to the back at all. I stuck my trusty pocket knife in there to see what would happen and was greeted with a brief explosion of sparks (so i guess it's not a fuse or whatever). What could be the problem?
