More rear main oil seal questions 200

Thinking of replacing the rear main seal on one of my 240's and have a few questions. When removing the transmission does the engine need to be supported so has not to stress the motor mounts? In the past I've placed a piece of 2x4 in between the head and firewall. Is it necessary to disconnect the exhaust at the converter? I have a genuine Volvo rear main seal but wonder if the aftermarket AW70 input shaft seals sold by fcp and eeuro are ok.
