1981 turbo air mass meter limp home mode? 200 1983

I'm going to look at a 1981 242 turbo. It's about sixty miles away from my house. The car does not run. The owner states that it will start but not stay running. I suspect the air mass meter. Is there a way to jump some pins or something to one test and then maybe to get me home. Not sure that it would be a good idea to drive it this way, but I would like to hear it run before I buy it. Thanks and happy bricking.
