Slow bucking HELP PLEASE

When I'm coasting almost to a stop, my engine grumbles like it's about to stall out. The idle dips low and I can't tell what's wrong. It's fine the rest of the time, but when slowing down to a stop there is something weird. It's almost like I'm drifting off onto rumble-strips on the freeway.
I can't tell if it's my older snow tires, or a driveline vibration, or a fuel delivery problem. Could it be the alternator getting old? What should I do, or look for?
