Sway bar end link failed 900 1993

When doing some front suspension work last spring I replaced the sway bar end-links. Today while I was checking some other things out I found that the passenger side end link broken in two where the shaft is welded to lower bushing ring. The hoop/ring around the lower bushing actually came apart and left about 3/8" section atatched to the shaft . Luckily I saved the old end links and put one of the old ones on with the newer bushings
Is this a sign of some other problem? Could I have somehow fouled up a seemingly straightforward installation? Or, did I just get a bad part?
The end links came from FCP, I believe made by MTC.
If this is what I suspect and I just got an inferior part should I be worried about the other side and is there a possibility that FCP will give me some sort of consideration on another part?

One last question, would'nt upgrading to poly bushings put even more stress on this part?
