Extra connector in alternator harness 700

There is a 2 prong connector that comes out of the sheath holding the 2 wires to the alternator.

It's just hanging there and doesn't seem to go to anything.

Anyone know what this is for? The car seems to run fine without it and there's no connector on the alternator for it.

Since the wires are rotten I'm considering cutting the connector off and taping the ends so it won't short. Is this a good idea or should I just splice a new connector on and forget about it?

Regards,

Tim
