Congatulations on your new acquisition. Don't be so negative about the B/27-28. It sounds like you bought the car from someone who cares and probably did maintain it and with only 43k you should easily see another 200 with frequent oil changes (you can't change it too often). I've worked at Peugeot (which is what the motor is) dealers and Volvo independants. I never saw the problems at Peugeot that I saw with the Volvo cars. My own theory is that the Peugeot owners are/were an eccentric lot and have/had more interest in what their vehicles need. It seems to me the 260 series was designed to appeal to Buick/Oldsmobile owners--those not accustomed to the requirements of more complex mechanical components. Lack of regular (or none at all in one case) oil changes is the motor killer for the V6. The oil orifices through the rocker arms and to the timing chain tensioner are TINY. The very Peugeot like bottom end is way strong and the piston/liner combo doesn't have any particular wear issues. Lesson---for long life--oil changes, oil changes, oil changes -- and don't overheat it (for those in the service industry--how many times have you heard - "I know the hose/radiator leaked out the coolant, but I was only 5,8,12 -take your pick-miles from home" ?). Expect to have to do a water pump at some point--have one and all the attendant hoses ready. Yes, they are a PITA to work on. I have a 4-speed w/OD, AC compressor, starter and other stuff when/if you want it. Good Luck
