Small update, crippled car... 120-130 1968

Just out of curiosity; the carbs that you just put on the car are the ones with a vacuum takeoff, right? You did plug the vacuum takeoff if it wasn't connected anywhere, I hope.

Fully closed throttles and a racing engine means an air leak. An open vacuum fitting is an air leak, for all intents and purposes.

Just as a general troubleshooting suggestion; playing with the timing when the car wouldn't start after you put the new carbs on is a no-no, if the car was running before you swapped the carbs.
Now you have two things that may not be working correctly to complicate your troubleshooting efforts.
