Hello All,
Sonny boy has been complaining that the 93 Wagon with 183K has been making clicking noises in the front end.
He says there is no play in the wheel when he's done the 9:00/3:00 and 12:00/6:00 wiggle test. I believe (as far as I can remember from his tel calls - he doesn't call home as often as I'd like him to) that this clicking intensifies or is absent going around turns in one particular direction. This leads me to believe that what he might be hearing is a wheel bearing on it's way out.
In any case, I am visiting him tomorrow and plan to swap cars with him. I've got my tools, etc loaded up and I'm hoping that I can make it home before the wheel or something else self-destructs. He goes to school in Ithaca, NY and it's about a 200 mi trip as I live near Albany. Although I've got my jack and jack stands loaded up, I'm not looking forward to spending half a day in the freezing cold. Think its worth trying to remove the dust cap and try shooting some grease into the space beyond? Any other suggestions. I'd sure like to make it home without getting towed or having the wheel fall off.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Marty Wolfson
