Hi folks,
My engine is pretty quiet - a tad of belt squeak, but I'm doing my timing and accessory belts soon.
There is one noise that disturbs me a bit, and I think it's a transmission-related bushing. It may just mean I need a lube, I'm not sure. I'd like some input.
When I accelerate, I hear an intermittent groan that seems to come from my transmission or driveshaft - and it groans more when I accelerate harder. As far as I know, my trans mount is original (but engine mounts are from Jan 2000).
If I have a wall next to me when I am accelerating, I hear a high-pitched intermittent (no pattern or regularity) metal-on-metal chitter. It's not audible if the windows are closed.
The transmission is a replacement unit from 2000 - maybe it was new, I can't tell from the PO's paperwork. It shifts gently and predictably, and I wouldn't complain at all, but for the noise (and I just don't understand where it's coming from).
Does this sound transmission-y or driveshaft-y?
I know it's hard to diagnose from a description. I appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks!
Ari
