Motor Oil in my 1982 B23E 250k kms 200

Hi guys, I guess this is something that may create a debate but I am looking for advise on what engine oil to run in my brick. The car doesn't leak or burn any oil and the motor has done 250k (B23E). I only bought it recently from a pretty fastidious owner aand he has been running a 10-40 weight semi-synth oil. I live in Sydney Australia where the average temps are about 30 deg C in Summer and 15 deg C in winter. My valves are a tad noisy on both a cold and warm engine. Question is, should I change to a mineral oil? Would a quality mineral oil 10-40 be any better at reducing the valve noise etc or should I look at 10-50 semi syth or mineral etc?
