what's best way to fix slight header pipe leak next to tranny lines? 200 1986

all,
while looking for leaks in the AT lines, i found a small imperceptible leak in my header pipe next to the tranny lines where it attaches to the bell housing.

unfortunately, years ago, my wife had the muffler system fixed from the header pipe back, all flanges have been cut off and parts welded on.

so my header pipe is welded on to the cat.

question:
1) get a muffler shop to patch weld the leak?
2) bite the bullet and get a new whole system? i've got a 1 yr old cat and rear muffler.

i would like to try to get the system back to original set up where everthing can be attached via flanges and clamps.
