Oil filler cap seal??? 700 1987

Hi folks,

I'm up late listening to SNL while I shop eEuroparts. I found an item called an 'oil filler cap seal,' and it looks like a basic rubber o-ring.

I've taken my oil filler cap off a few times, and there's no gasket or anything there. Just a metal-on-metal fit. I don't seem to be leaking oil out the filler cap.

My engine seems ok. Would there have been a reason for removing the o-ring in the past, to prevent crankcase pressure, etc.?

Thanks,

Ari
