87-740 AW72L overdrive issue. Replace, repair, disable???

There is a electrical short where the wire abuts the solenoid.

I separated the connector near the gear shifter and installed my vom between the two ends. Then by putting the wire in a different position I was able to establish the 11.7 volt flow through. I wasn't able, however, to get the solenoid to "click"(by operating the button on gear shift).

Next I arranged and secured the wire in position to allow the 11.7volt to flow through uninterrupted. I then drove the car and the od was a "no show".

What do you think?

Thanks

Lawrence
